Fixing the Future Across America

Date:
Wednesday, July 18, 2012 - 12:00am - 11:00pm

On Wednesday, July 18, 2012, Transition Towns will have an unprecedented opportunity to be a part of a national effort to support local economic initiatives.

On this day, Fixing the Future, a documentary that showcases working models for thriving economies, will screen in at least 50 theaters in cities across the U.S. Due to a wildly successful PBS version, the filmmakers have made a new, feature length version of the documentary that you can be among the first to see.

In Fixing the Future, host David Brancaccio (of NOW on PBS) visits people and organizations across America that are attempting a revolution: the reinvention of the American economy. By featuring communities using sustainable and innovative approaches to create jobs and build prosperity, Fixing the Future inspires hope and renewal in a people overwhelmed by economic collapse.

The film highlights effective, local practices such as: local business alliances, community banking, time banking/hour exchange, worker cooperatives and local currencies. Following the documentary, audiences will enjoy a pre-taped discussion panel featuring luminaries Bill McKibbenMajora Carter, Richard Rockefeller and David Brancaccio

Where the film is shown depends largely on local interest. So the Fixing the Future team is actively seeking local “hosts” for each of the screenings who will not only get an opportunity to introduce the film, but will also present a local call-to-action geared toward sustainable solutions, such as a “move your money” community banking initiative, the development of a community garden, or the creation of a worker cooperative. The media strategy group Active Voicewill be available to help hosts maximize these events as an opportunity to garner new supporters while also being tied to a larger, national movement.
