Years Active: 2013-Present

Current Activities: For the last six months, we have been involved in crafting updates to our county's Comprehensive Plan, including writing sections for the Vision Statement and the Lopez Village Subarea Plan and attending meetings with the County Council and the Planning Commission to give feedback. In addition, since taking the Transition Healthcheck at a February retreat, the Steering Committee has been meeting every two weeks to develop a more considered, strategic plan for our group's activities and interface with the community.

Accomplishments: Our Barnraising Guild organizes short labor share projects with neighbors helping one another with homesteading projects to promote resilience as community land use island-wide becomes more productive. Our Education Guild has sponsored numerous events, including monthly "Potlucks with a Purpose" to bring small groups of islanders together to socialize while engaging with subjects of local interest; a screening of "Years of Living Dangerously," the nine part series on climate change, with each episode followed by community conversation; and during COP21, a viewing of "This Changes Everything" as part of a wildly successful French dessert "Paris Party." Our Energy/Climate Action Guild worked tirelessly on the I-732 campaign for a statewide carbon tax; created Dime-A-Gallon, a local, voluntary, personal carbon fee; and has participated in several energy fairs and electric car shows here on Lopez as well as other nearby Islands.
