14 Communities Pilot Transition Streets!

Transition US is thrilled to be working with the following 14 communities to pilot Transition Streets: Transition Albany, CA; Transition Amherst, MA; Transition Berkeley, CA; Transition Town Bozeman, MT; Transition Charlottesville Albemarle, VA; Transition Howard County, MD; Transition Humboldt, CA; Transition Goshen, IN; Transition Town Northampton, MA; Transition Manitou Springs, CO; Transition Milwaukee, WI; Transition Missoula, MT; Transition Newburyport, MA; and San Diego.

Transition Streets is a neighborhood carbon reduction program developed by Transition Totnes in the UK. This program provides a curriculum for neighbors to come together over the course of 7 meetings to learn and take action in five areas (food, energy, water, transportation, and waste). The focus of the curriculum is on low-cost (or no-cost) actions that result in lowering both expenses and carbon footprint.

Transition US is working with the cohort of piloteers to implement the project between January and March, and they’re already generating quite a buzz about the project!

Check out this local news clip on the project in Bozeman, or these articles on how Transition Streets is taking shape in Albany, CA and Newburyport, MA

Pilot groups will be gathering input and feedback on the program, which Transition US will incorporate into the program offerings prior to the national rollout of Transition Streets, scheduled for May 2015 as part of the annual Community Resilience Challenge.

Transition Streets materials will be offered for free to Transition Initiatives (suggested donation $15/download) and at a cost of $15 per download to the general public to help cover costs of the workbook and ongoing project support. If you would like to pre-register to participate in Transition Streets please click here. Materials and information on training opportunities will be sent to you in advance of the national rollout in May.
