Planting seeds of resilience

This spring, Transition US is looking for individuals to contribute and sustain their support as we plant seeds of resilience for the Transition movement.

Please join us in collectively planting our garden for this year. With a monthly donation to Transition US, you will become a Seed of Resilience Sustainer.

As you likely know, there are many steps involved in setting up your spring garden:

1) Determine the scale of the garden

How big do you want this garden to be? There are many people to be fed with the abundance from this garden, so let’s challenge ourselves to grow as much as we can! In honor of the 149 Transition Initiatives that have formed in the US, we have a goal of planting the garden with 149 new Seed of Resilience Sustainers.

2) Determine what we’ll be growing

Gardeners and permaculturists know that diversity reduces vulnerability and takes advantage of the environment’s unique nature. With that in mind, we have a variety of projects and activities that we’ll be planting, tending, and harvesting this year, including:

  • Ongoing support of Transition Initiatives through trainings, mentorship, teleseminars, and resources
  • The national rollout of the Transition Streets neighborhood carbon reduction project
  • Piloting the Community Resilience Indicator toolkit to help communities measure their resiliency and identify actions to increasing their resilience
  • Helping Transition initiatives set up sustainable livelihoods and enterprises through the REconomy project.

3) Preparing the soil and applying compost

What lessons are there to learn that can be composted and used for moving forward? Transition US will be continually seeking input from Transition Initiatives, our supporters, and our partners on what’s working and what needs improvement. We’ll be collecting input from our annual survey, as well as through convening strategy sessions and telesalons conference calls with Transitioners across the country.

4) Maintenance

This is where the Seed of Resilience Sustainers come in. By signing up as a monthly sustainer, you will be providing the ongoing support that Transition US needs to maintain this work. TUS has a small staff of only three part-time committed and inspired employees. We’re able to operate on a very lean budget, which means that your donation, no matter what size, will have a huge impact. Please join us in growing abundance for this important movement by becoming a monthly donor through our Seed of Resilience Sustainer program.

With gratitude and pitchforks ready,

Carolyne, Maggie, and Marissa
