Summary of Activities: Transition Newburyport has inspired and/or catalyzed the following activities in the community: Community Resilience Circles, the Time Trade Network of Greater Newburyport, Repair Café Newburyport, Storm Surge, the Earth Port Film Festival, TeamTOMORROW, the North Shore Permaculture Collaborative, a monthly Living with Nature discussion group, and the Greater Newburyport Area Toward Resilient Sustainable Communities Public Events Calendar. We maintain a website, Facebook page, and issue a periodic e-newsletter. We are currently involved in the launch of an Incredible Edible Greater Newburyport group.
Summary of Accomplishments: All the above mentioned initiatives (except for the Community Resilience Circles) are still ongoing in the Greater Newburyport area. Members of the Community Resilience Circles led the successful Newburyport Plastic Bag Ban Initiative and the establishment of the Time Trade Network. The Time Trade Network has 113 members who have exchanged 3,800 hours since its inception. The fourth Repair Café Newburport is scheduled for September 28, 2019. To date, we have served over 350 visitors with more than 450 items repaired. In April 2020, the Earth Port Film Festival will be celebrating its 9th anniversary of screening short films that tell stories of people around the world taking action to address the environmental challenges facing the Earth today. To date, 79 films have been screened.
