In the midst of a global pandemic that has left millions unemployed, many people are hurting financially right now while others are not. Here at Transition US, we have been able to maintain our staff of four part-time remote workers so far, but we are facing an abrupt $32,000 shortfall in our budget due to having to postpone this summer’s National Gathering to 2021. We also feel a great responsibility for the many volunteer Transition leaders that are part of our national movement who have lost jobs recently or have found themselves underemployed, without sufficient aid from our federal government.

In this moment, when it has become even more clear how important building local community resilience is - both now and for our future - we need to find ways to move forward, not back. That is why Transition US has created the Transition US Community Resilience Stimulus Fund. We invite all those who are able to, who are healthy and still working, to pledge your stimulus check (or donate whatever you can) to this cause.

50% of all donations and pledges will support the work of Transition US during these challenging times, as we continue to offer relevant and practical online events, resources, trainings, and programs like Ready Together: A Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness Handbook for our network. The other 50% will be used to provide stipends for unemployed or underemployed volunteer local Transition Initiative, regional hub, national working group, and Collaborative Design Council leaders to continue building resilience through this crisis and strengthening our national movement. A request for proposals will be sent out in the next two weeks and we plan to report back to our entire network with stories and metrics from the projects that your donations will make possible.

Because we believe so deeply in this movement - its power and potential - and we can currently afford to do so, two members of our staff have already pledged their entire $1,200 stimulus checks.

If you happen to be one of the fortunate who has been healthy and working from home, or don’t need your check for any reason, we encourage you to join us in demonstrating that now is the time to invest in our future.

Wishing you and yours strong health, peace, and solidarity. If Transition US can be of help in any way, please let us know.
