Sustainable NE Seattle's Planet:HOME

As a core aspect of the Transition model, there is the push to re-skill ourselves with the necessary tools to live within our local ecological means. Sustainable NE Seattle held a "Planet Earth" Community Festival on August 21, 2010 for local residents to come together and share skills to to do just that.

The Festival expressed the theme of our planet as our home by arranging exhibits according to rooms of a house. In the "Kitchen" there was a cheese-making demonstration, while in the Garage there were electric bikes that you could test ride.

The event featured free workshops, speakers, food, live music, demonstrations, hands-on science and art activities for kids! Participants learned how to reduce their environmental footprint and share their experiences in trying to live more sustainably!

logoTopics spanned from solar cooking, bicycle repair (bring your bike!), cheese-making, weatherizing you home, growing your own tea (bring a cup!), sod replacement, worm bins, bee-keeping, tool repair (bring your tools!), edible landscaping, knowledge-sharing with community elders, rain gardens, and much much more. At the end of the day, participants took home ideas for environmentally-friendly living.
