Transition Initiatives set for Day of Climate Action!

Our friends over at are organizing an international Day of Climate Action on Saturday October 24 (read Bill McKibben's letter to the transition community). So far, people in more than 181 nations are taking part -— it's shaping up to be to be the biggest day of grassroots action on global warming ever with over 4500 events and rallies planned worldwide. Here's just a sample of events that Transition Initiatives are organizing:

  • Transition Cotati
    Cotati Climate Festival to be held at the Oliver's Market parking lot at 546 East Cotati Avenue, 10 am to 1:50 pm. Enjoy cookies baked in a solar oven, check out some electric bikes and other vehicles, engage in a community art project and learn about many ways you can make a real, positive, enjoyable difference.
  • Transition Santa Cruz
    Rally at Town Clock, 2-4 pm music, potluck, film event at Live Oak Grange 4-9 pm
  • Sustainable NE Seattle
    Between 3 -5pm there will be all kinds of activities, speakers, and artists as well as an aerial group shot. We'll be streaming video from 350 actions around the region and around the world and have groups promoting great ways to take climate action on site in collaboration with local organizations.
  • Transition Ann Arbor
    2nd Ann Arbor Reskilling Festival, 10 am-4:30 pm, 2230 Pontiac Trail. Part of the Transition Towns Movement, the concept of reskilling is about learning to provide for ourselves and our communities by growing, preserving, creating, building, and teaching. Our opening session will celebrate this international day of climate action (
  • Transition West Marin
    Climate Action Rally Power Down Challenge Day, and Low Carbon Fair, 12 noon-4 pm, Third St., Point Reyes, CA
  • Transition New Haven
    Transition Road Show - Greater New Haven Transition Initiative We'll cover the problems (peak oil, climate change, economic meltdown) and solutions (creating sustainable community on a human scale). There will be entertainment, reflection, inspiration and dynamic participation all in one show! 7-9pm.
  • Transition Los Angeles
    A community gathering and a teach-in about climate change, peak oil, and what we can do about them. 10am to 12pm.
  • Transition Santa Barbara
    Wake Up To Climate Change! 11am at Vera Cruz Park on Cota (Farmer’s Market) We will gather to take a group picture to send to UN leaders meeting in Copenhagen. We hope to see many posters, flags, guerrilla theater acts, costumes, masks etc. to get the “wake up” message out to our community.
  • Transition Sebastopol
    Transition Sebastopol is teaming up with members of the local chapter and Solar Sonoma County who have taken the lead in organizing a local Sebastopol event for the International Day of Climate Action. Location: downtown Sebastopol, 10AM-2PM. There will also be group photos taken!
  • Transition Towns, San Luis Obispo County
    A festival aimed at raising awareness about global climate change is scheduled to be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sunken Gardens. The event will feature performances by local bands Questa Ridge Mountain Boys, Tropo and Up In the Air. There will be booths for green businesses and other green causes as well as a surprise event at 1 p.m.
